7 Ways to Make Your Home Look Elegant on a Budget
Everyone dreams of a beautiful home. We all flip through magazines looking at beautiful home interiors, their wallpaper, well-curated sofas, and cushions. Not all of us have a lot of money to splurge on expensive architectures, wall arts, etc. to make our home beautiful. Giving a modern, classic touch to your home is trying on a tight budget. But there are few techniques shared by interior designers that can make any home elegant without spending a bundle.
Let’s look at a few tips and tricks to make your home look elegant on a budget.
1. Crown Molding
You can change the decor of any room dramatically by crown molding. Crown moulding is a stylish decoration to your home that can make it look high-end in an instance. It adds definition and a historical flavour to a room. Without this, the place seems unfinished. The plastic and paintable crown mouldings are very economical.
By adding crown moulding to your wall, it adds an impression of a taller and larger room. For a seamless look of crown moulding, make sure that while installing, it gets the right cuts at the right angles. You can use crown moulding in kitchen cabinets, shelves, bedroom headboard, around the mounted TV, etc.
2. Wall arts
Source: https://www.pexels.com/photo/beige-fabric-sofa-2555635/
Hanging art or photo frames on a wall can spice up the entire room. Before deciding on wall art, you must decide on the wall on which you want to place it. An excellent trick to choose the size of wall art is the width of the wall, minus 5-10 inches on each side. If you have a massive empty wall, then instead of buying a huge wall art piece(which can be expensive), buy pieces that you can display as collages.
Wall arts come in different forms like framed art, unframed canvas, metal objects, and sculptures. Get creative with your wall by making your art and get it framed at a local craft store. Wall art can be soothing, and relaxing to have in the home. To read more about mindful interior design; click here.
3. Higher ceilings
An inexpensive way to make a room look spacious and open is to give an illusion of a higher ceiling. You can give this illusion by raising the window panels. Mount the window panel just below the ceiling and add a fabric that compliments the wall. Let the fabric hang down to the floor.
Choose the color of the window panel similar to the ceiling. Doing so prevents any separation line between roof and panel. Another way to create an illusion of a higher ceiling is to go vertical. When the arts you hang in your room are taller than in width, it creates a difference.
4. Lighting
Source: https://www.pexels.com/photo/gray-pendant-lamp-2397351/
Make your home attractive by giving the right lighting. It is a refreshing change to see your room in new lights. A small yet significant difference in the brightness of your room is an easy and inexpensive method to add elegance to your home. Add designer chandeliers instead of the standard lightings.
You can get high-end chandeliers at an economical price in the flea markets and second-hand stores. You can give a high-end modern makeover with some creative tricks. Use a drum shade as a chandelier to get a custom look lighting. Adding fresh paint can make dull lighting, look like a new one. Increase the type of lights like table lamps, floor lamps, or LED wall lights around the home adds more elegance.
5. Declutter
De-cluttering your space is a simple way for a distinguished home makeover. The most affordable ideas for a beautiful home is to regularly clean and de-clutter your space. Regular vacuuming and dusting of pillows, lighting's, accessories, flooring, paint, rugs, etc. will make your room look brighter. Create some space in your home by getting rid of old, stained carpets, which gives a warm and welcoming appeal to the place. Also, clean the windows to let in natural, bright light fill the room.
6. Paint and wallpaper
Paint and Wallpaper Image Source
Painting the walls is a budget-friendly way to get a high-end looking home decor. Choose a color palette of one-two colors that flows throughout your room. Using primary one-two colors will reduce the waste of paint. Make sure that the two colors compliment each other and go with the furnishing in your home. Wallpapers are an excellent alternative instead of paint in flat areas. To keep the walls looking classy, choose a wallpaper that has a lustre sheen, glossy hint to it.
7. Focus on faucets
Do not ignore the bathroom. Wallet-friendly changes in the bathroom by displaying little artefacts can make a huge difference. Add a mirror with intricate designs, shower curtains, towel bars, good quality mats, and soap cases that will change the look of any small, dull bathroom. Keep the bathroom wall colours neutral to highlight the artefacts.
Conclusion:
The above seven tips are economical ways to transform your home. Before starting to change the decor of your home, check your budget. Plan everything according to your budget. Shop from small stores, instead of malls. Look for room decor, inspirations on Instagram and Pinterest, which will help you in finalizing a look for your home. Let your creativity flow in, and you will be surprised to see your house elegant and beautiful in a budget.

51 Beautiful Black Bedrooms With Images, Tips & Accessories To Help You Design Yours
Black bedroom decor might not always be everyone’s cup of morning tea or bedtime cocoa, but maybe we can change the minds of nonbelievers. Black bedrooms don’t have to be a dark and dingy affair, or feel closed in; black painted walls can be the backdrop to a much more vibrant set of coloured accessories. An all black bedroom furniture ensemble brings a slick look to a sleep space, which can be edged in cool modern lighting solutions, and complemented by decadent wallpapers. Alternating black and white walls or furniture pieces makes for a fresh monochrome aesthetic, which looks great warmed through with wood accents. Find inspiration for all this and more right here.
Designer: Davidsign Create an inverted art gallery. Black and white photographic prints and paintings are an ideal accessory for a black room. Art galleries may typically present these on white walls but a black display wall looks twice as striking.
Visualizer: Igor Sirotov Keep it simple. An all black bedroom suits minimalist bedroom furniture, with clean linear shape.
Visualizer: Double Aye Black makes a perfect backdrop. When walls are knocked back in black, you can go wild with colourful accessories, like this tricolour light installation. Black also makes a good base for standout furniture pieces like this unique painted bed.
Visualizer: Kriss Maksymchuk Reflect light into dark coloured rooms with mirrors. Situate a stripe of mirror behind one or both bedside units. A floor to ceiling strip of glass will go a long way in bouncing extra natural light around your interior.
Visualizer: Now Design Light it up. If you’re going to have a black bedroom then you have to consider lighting as part of the plan. Install too little illumination and you might find yourself left in the shade. LED strip lights present the perfect solution for edging furniture; attach them along the perimeter of the headboard and around the bed base for a truly inviting and cosy look. Hang a modern chandelier low for extra drama.
Visualizer: Jeffrey Faranial Borrow light – and colour. This bedroom is opened up at the back by having a glass wall ensuite bathroom. This can contribute extra daylight via the bathroom window, or it can just be a way to introduce another colour. In this case the open ensuite adds a glowing woodtone vista to the scene.
Visualizer: Makhno If flat black feels to stark to you, then consider a textured feature wall. Don’t forget to throw some illumination over it to really pick out that detail. Keep the rest of the scheme white and woodtone so as not to overpower the strength of the dark wall.
Visualizer: MirrorR Studio Rich rustic. Black and rich woodtone make an ideal colour narrative for a rustic bedroom scheme. Bring in a chunky black metal pendant light and some natural woven baskets to shape the theme.
Visualizer: Tài Nguyễn Fashion a headboard feature wall out of black storage cabinets. These black slab fronted units appear like a contemporary panelled wall behind the bed.
Visualizer: Dim Eysner Wire up the wardrobe. Another way to get lots of light into the back of a dark room is by installing a closet with glass doors. By day, the glass will reflect natural light from the window. By night, the closet can be a lightbox, where LED strip lights glow from the garment rails and shelving. Edge other shelves in the room too, for an all around glow.
Visualizer: Alexandru Ionita Go green. Live greenery will soften a black decor scheme and breathe life where there is shade.
Visualizer: Alexandru Ionita You can push the green theme a little further by bringing in coloured furniture, like this plush green fabric bedstead.
Visualizer: Anastasia Andryushchenko A little splash of white will go a long way. Thin white electrical wires of a modern pendant light scribble luminously across a subtly patterned black wall here. Slender white bedsides trim the baseline.
Visualizer: Johny Mrazko These circular bedroom pendant lights hang like moons in a pitch black sky. A red stool and blue ottoman break up the neutral scheme.
Visualizer: Asgard Interiors Hit the sheets in a black and blue room. This black bedroom has been dressed with a blue bed set. As the bed is such a massive item in the room, changing out the colour of the bedclothes will completely change your colour scheme – you could have a new look every week. Check out the beautifully warming stripe of wood shelving across this cool slatted black headboard wall too. Illuminate a slatted wall along the ceiling line to pick out the detail, and hang a modern chandelier to layer up the look.
Visualizer: Madi Chanyshev Draw inspiration from art. If you find a particularly striking piece that you’d love to display in the room, then let its colours inspire the decor. No need to paint a whole wall to match, a small colour insert works wonders in a dark scheme. Notice how the bookcase in this room also adds relief in the blackness.
Visualizer: Freedes Studio Camouflage large furniture items. This winged black accent chair is hardly noticeable against the black wall, which makes the scheme seem more open.
Visualizer: Stanislav Borozdinskiy When walls are dark, fill the floor with light. This pure white platform bed on a smooth white floor looks ethereal in contrast to deep black-brown walls. A white art canvas draws light into the vertical plane.
Visualizer: CG Lab Pierce solid black areas with light accessories. Pale bedside table lamps bring light relief to black bedside sections. See more ideas for wood slat walls here.
Designer: Rande Hackmann Photographer: Megan Thiele Dark decadence. Nothing has quite the same depth of decadence as a black and gold bedroom. Push it up a notch or two with a gold four poster bed and black boiserie. Notice the unusual placement of a fireplace between the windows too. The decorative surround houses a group of pillar candles – though always remember to keep lit candles away from draughts and curtains.
Visualizer: Marina Donskikh A more subtle black and gold bedroom scheme – this time just two elegant gold pendant lights bring the glamour. A blonde wood floor matches their tone.
Visualizer: Harun Kaymaz Dark dressed eclectic. This interesting mix of modern and classic pieces are held tightly together by the strong colour scheme.
Designer: Cortney Bishop Brighten where it matters. The bed and the windows are brightened as the stars of this show, black walls fall back. Pretty little indoor plants dress white bedside units, under white wall sconces. A striped bed throw ties the black and white of the room together, whilst beige cushions and wall art stop the scheme from becoming too coldly monochrome.
Visualizer: Peter Janov Have fun with an unexpectedly colourful piece.
Visualizer: Sergey Ko Quietly lighten an all black bedroom with low grey wall panelling and a pale grey rug.
Visualizer: Artem Meshchankin & Sergei Makhno A second example of keeping things light on the floor – this time with a cream fabric bed and cream circle rug. The bedside table and designer table lamp echo the circular theme.
Visualizer: Kriss Maksymchuk Build a black room, within a white room. A black ‘box’ has been fashioned to house the bed in this predominantly white space. The dark area is uplifted by motivational quotes over the bed, under an illuminated canopy. A huge swing arm wall lamp adds reading light.
Visualizer: Aleksey Bereznyak Much more understated wall sconces bring reading light to this ruffled bed. The bedside units span out to create a desk and dressing table on either side.
Visualizer: Harun Kaymaz Apply black and white imagery into panel moulding.
Visualizer: Luydmila Todorova A black bedroom is a neutral home for hard to match items.
Visualizer: Giorgos Tataridis Slice it through. Cut through the darkness with a slice of white or cream. This textured niche with recessed lighting completely changes the dynamic of the room.
Visualizer: Ugljanitsa Alexander Go big with wallpaper prints that have light detailing.
Visualizer: Inna Shapovalova An equal combination of light and dark makes a soothing yin and yang. The bed and bedroom chair create a beautifully balanced visual, each with dark bases and light fabric.
Visualizer: HATCH STUDIO Make narrow windows appear larger by hanging drapes that expand all the way across the window wall.
Visualizer: Lera Katasonova Design Hang window drapes all the way up at the ceiling line to create added height too.
Visualizer: Sergey Kondratev Go black with brickwork. Exposed brick has been painted over in this black and gray bedroom, so that the texture can still be seen. The wall acts as zoning decor for a small bedroom lounge area. The brick texture is complemented by geometric pattern in a niche behind the bed.
Visualizer: Igor Sirotov In this example of a glass wall ensuite, the bathroom borrows light from the bedroom rather than vice versa.
Visualizer: Dekaa A dark slatted door features in this bedroom with wardrobe display. Beige furniture lightens the look.
Visualizer: KUOO ARCHITECTS An expanse of wooden wardrobes balance an all black wall.
Visualizer: IQOSA Architect Make things pop with perimeter lighting.
Visualizer: Van Dz A single black wall, beaten back by white in the rest of a Scandinavian style room creates a clean look.
Visualizer: Nunzio Cava Throw together a cool bedroom with a black feature wall, a reclaimed pallet bed and music themed art.
Visualizer: Mohamed Terko Halo lights make this black and white bedroom a heavenly space.
Visualizer: Ahmed Itafy Keep it cosy. That close feeling that all black decor evokes presents a positive effect in an oversized loft space.
Visualizer: Maxim Nizovkin Shake up simplicity. A flush-fitted floor bed design and sleek ceiling lights create a wonderfully simplistic scheme; a black accent wall gives the design depth and dimension.
Visualizer: Makhno Texture all the way. Think monochrome granite and woven rugs.
Visualizer: MI Group Industrial style lighting suits a strong backdrop. Try adding brightly coloured flex to make them pop.
Visualizer: Kroom Accessorise a black wall with a large wall clock.
Visualizer: Mahdi Bina Mahdi Bina A black and red bedroom looks sumptuous…
Visualizer: Haytham Alaa … add panel moulding for a high-end finish.
Visualizer: Olga Podgornaja

Interior Design Ideas
Hello, everyone! I am so happy to share this new “Interior Design Ideas” with you. Today, I’m featuring a stunning home built by a well-known Calgary building company, Veranda Estate Homes. Here, they explain more about this inspiring project.
“My husband & I own and operate a small boutique custom home building company, Veranda Estate Homes in Calgary, Alberta Canada. This project is our last home that we designed and built for ourselves. We sold this home a year ago and are now in the process of building our dream home. Besides building our own home we also have many other projects on the go at any given time, from custom estate homes for clients, to large scale renovations and spec homes in desirable communities throughout our city. There is never a dull moment around here with our two boys and the company. Besides being on all of the sites daily and dealing with our incredibly talented trade base I am working with our clients to ensure that their home is perfect…it is a lot of fun!
Maximizing natural light and the view of the land was key when we designed our last home that was situated on a treed two acre parcel. With a pond at the back and towering trees the we wanted the exterior of the home to blend into nature. When designing the floorplan we kept in mind our love to entertain & that we had a young family. The home is finished with exquisite built-on-site cabinetry, wide plank hardwood floors, and great attention to detail, which is evident in every room. From the grand entrance featuring stunning curved staircases, to the marble counters and solid slab backsplash, this home is elegant but not intimidating. The design allowed great flow and unique spaces for every member of our family and guest to enjoy for years to come.“

Wallpaper prints: horses wallpaper, owl wallpaper, rooster wallpaper, forest fauna wallpaper, safari animals wallpaper, rabbit wallpaper
2. Contrast the medicine cabinet or mirror with the bathroom sink faucet
Keeping with the mixed metals home decor trend, gold and matte black finishes compliment each other perfectly in this bathroom. DIY your own faux gold bathroom mirror with this tutorial by Designer Trapped in a Lawyer’s Body. Add extra storage in a small bathroom like this by installing a medicine cabinet instead of a flat bathroom mirror.

Decorative white accents like the white frames, simple art prints, and delicate bud vase add to the neutral color palette of the room. Plus, keeping decor simple ensures it doesn’t compete with the statement wallpaper. If you want to add a pop of color to the space, stick with one vivid hue like the mustard yellow used in this bathroom.

15 Home Design Trends That Rocked 2016
2016 has been a rollercoaster of a year, to say the least. Yet like any other, it brought new home trends that we saw go from the homes of prominent designers to our own abodes. From modern metals to quirky accent pieces, we gathered up a list of the things we saw the most in over the past 12 months on blogs, in stores, and all over our Pinterest boards.
Here’s a look back at all of the trends we saw influencing our own homes and design styles in 2016.
Image: Camilla Molders Design
Fish Scale Tiles
So many of the eclectic bathrooms we saw this year featured fish scale tiles. This Moroccan-based, scalloped pattern is often found in a brilliant shade of turquoise. It’s about as far from the minimalist subway tile look as you can get, and offers a welcome opportunity to make any bathroom feel just a bit closer to the sea. Perfect for interior design lovers and mermaids alike.
Image: Rikki Snyder
Artisan Pieces
It’s not just about what the decor piece is anymore – it’s also about where it’s from. In 2016, we’ve seen artisan pieces and “maker” products go mainstream, with companies like West Elm collaborating with small design shops and furniture makers. Think of it as a follow-up to farm-to-table cuisine in restaurants.
Image: LEX Furniture
Geometric Patterns
Geometric patterns have been popular for decades, but this year’s popular prints took on a modern, Scandinavian-inspired look. Black and white checks and tessellated designs showed up on artwork, textiles, even walls. And you know everyone had that IKEA pillow.
Image: Crescent Homes
Shiplap
TLC’s Fixer Upper featured a storybook southern couple, Chip and Joanna, whose jaw-dropping renovations had everyone feeling the farmhouse-chic vibes this year. And so interior design saw a huge uptick in the popularity of Joanna’s favorite feature: Shiplap. Although many argue about what it actually is, there’s no doubt that this horizontal, white-washed paneling became the home design buzzword in 2016.
Image: Natalie Myers
Tech-free Living Spaces
Prominent interior designers and home influencers took a step back from technology this year, and we began to see living and bedrooms sans televisions. Even on Freshome, you noticed — commenting “where’s the TV?” in rooms without a dedicated spot for the tube.
Image: Callwey
Fur
Or faux fur, mostly. Taking a note from nordic design, we saw small throws of the fuzzy stuff tossed over the back of chairs or made into chic pillowcases. Regardless of how you feel about it from an ethics standpoint, it does add texture to those minimally-style rooms that can err on the colder side.
Image: Style by Emily Henderson
Bulky, Low Furniture
Channeling the laid-back, relaxed furniture styles of the ‘70s, we saw a rise in bulky furniture over the past year. When adapting it to your own home, splurge for high-quality fabrics and square arms. Because bean bag chairs still aren’t back in style yet.
Image: Pottery Barn
Shibori
Following the modern bohemian trend, shibori showed up on just about every textile imaginable. This Japanese tie-dye style features indigo and white and is a more muted version of the technicolor madness we’re used to with classic tie-dye. Check out our own list of DIY shibori projects for your own home.
Image: Rebecca Hay Designs
Two-Toned Cabinetry
The modern kitchen is changing. This year, a lot of that change came with the popularity of two-toned kitchen cabinetry. Sounds loud, but can actually be much easier on the eye than single-toned cabinets when done right — think black lower cabinets with white uppers. Varying grays or bold and neutral are also favorites.
Image: Lindye Galloway
Mid-Century Lighting
We’re pretty convinced that mid-century design will never go out of style. So the permanence and investment in a brass, eclectic lighting fixture shouldn’t be as scary as it seems. We’re seeing these spindly chandeliers pop up everywhere in homes: kitchens, dining rooms, bedrooms — even entryways.
Image: Rock Ribbons Eco Gifts
Geodes
There’s no denying that there’s something magical about geodes. These mesmerizing rocks split open to showcase brilliant crystals at their core. In home design, they make stunning bookends, coasters, even lamps. Rock on.
Image: Blakes London
Matte Finishes
On the opposite end of the sparkle spectrum, matte finishes saw a rise in popularity this past year. The understated beauty and sophistication of this flat finish brought it to walls, countertops, and appliances. We think this is just the beginning of homeowners opting for smoothness instead of shine.
Image: Katie Martinez Design
Marble Accessories
It was a big year for marble. Jumping out of its usual role on countertops and flooring, marble, and specifically, Carrera marble, found it’s way into every decor piece imaginable. Accent tables, serve ware, even the phone case of the girl sitting next to me as I type this.
Image: Fox Force Five Construction
Warm Metals
Gold and brass used to signify gaudy ‘90s fixtures, but warm metals have certainly made a comeback in the past year. Copper and rose gold also made their mainstream debuts. To avoid looking tacky, designers are opting for brushed and matte versions of warm metals.
Image: CM Natural Designs
Mixed Metals
Feeling nervous about going all gold everything? Luckily, this past year was the year to mix metals of all hues and finishes in the same space. To pull this off, start small, and get creative with which accents that are metal. So if your wallpaper has a touch of silver, try a brass lamp.
What was your favorite home design trend of 2016? Are there any we missed? We’d love to hear from you, so reach out to us over social media or in the comment section below!

Come on in and tour this colourful new-build family home in Kent, with a beautiful nursery
Once their second son arrived, Lydia and her partner Peter knew they’d outgrown our two-bedroomed flat. They were keen to put down roots, so they wouldn’t need to move again in a few years’ time, and were hoping to find a brand-new house that didn’t need repairs or alterations, and where everything would be pristine.
They only had floorplans and dimensions to go on, so they did their research before they committed themselves. Lydia found online images and video-tours of the different house designs, and Instagram pictures of the internal finishes on offer. After comparing lots of options, they chose a detached house, which they felt was the best value in our price range. It had four good-sized bedrooms, a utility room, study, garden and a garage,

They didn’t know their exact moving-in date until about a fortnight before. That meant they could hardly buy anything new for the house, as there was nowhere to store it. On the upside, they were allowed in to measure up, so Lydia ordered shutters for downstairs, and arranged to have the laminate floors and carpets down before they moved in.
The laminate flooring was bought from a local firm who offered exactly the same product as the house-builder, but at a keener price. All the walls were plain white to start with, creating a light, fresh, modern feel.

In the kitchen casual benches make great space-savers and can tuck away under the table. The Noa & Nani dining set came with light-coloured wood tops, which Lydia stained dark to look sharper and more impactful.
Playroom

Lydia had seen the geometric panelling idea on social media. It’s just made with stripwood, painted a blush colour to make a link with the kitchen cabinets, which are a warm pinkish-taupe. They watched online videos and learned as they’ve gone along, to save money.
Living room

The sitting room was a challenge because although it’s a nice size, it’s a tricky shape, with several windows. It felt white, and a bit disjointed so Lydia painted the corner a dramatic, dark blue, and created a gallery wall to frame the sofa, which has softening the look and pulling the room together.
Lydia has blended the corner sofa from their previous flat into the new scheme with a cool coffee table from Beliani, colourful velvet and leaf-print cushions. The blue picks up the fabulous wall colour, which is Craig and Rose’s Payne’s Grey.
Hallway

‘I’m pleased I didn’t have understairs storage built in, as the hall feels more roomy and open without. Cole and Son’s ‘Woods’ wallpaper is one of my favourites, and although it’s expensive I only needed a single roll for this space.’
Master bedroom

The main bedroom is a luxurious, grown-up sanctuary with a grey upholstered bed and side tables. When Lydia spotted some emerald-green velvet cushions, she realised that greens look amazing with greys. The final touch was a bold, palm-leaf wallpaper.
Walls can add interest and personality, which make up for not having any architectural features in a newbuild. The two concrete Aldi bedside lamps for less that £50, were too good a bargain to ignore. They were a perfect match for the Atkin and Thyme bedside tables.
Kid’s bedroom

Arlo’s room is white with different green shades, so it ties in nicely with the other bedrooms. Lydia painted a ‘mountain mural’ here. She used masking tape and just painted them by eye, so they almost have a hand-crafted look. Arlo’s daybed has deep storage drawers underneath and can convert to a double if they have friends to stay.

Lydia admits she’d been hooked on wall-to-wall greys, until deep, dramatic greens and leafy designs drew her out of her comfort zone.
‘When we moved in the kitchen and bathrooms were fitted and lovely, but it was just plain white walls and grey floors everywhere else. We had bare lightbulbs and there were no curtains, so the whole house felt stark and colourless. Since then I’ve overlaid the whites and greys with vibrant greens and blues, and dusky pinks to warm things up.’
‘We’ve introduced modern panelling, artwork, wallpapers and leafy patterns for interest, and softened the rooms with luxurious fabrics, and light-boosting metallics and mirrors.’
